Innovation in Offshore Wind - Highlight Video

On November 14, SeaAhead, MassCEC, and Ørsted hosted a gathering of key stakeholders to address an important question: can offshore wind be an innovation anchor for the new Blue Economy?

The explosive growth of the offshore wind industry can also spur innovation within the Blue Economy. Startups are developing solutions to an array of intersectional challenges and can play a key role in building effective, competitive, and responsible ocean-based industries.

We selected six startups innovating in the New Blue Economy to give five-minute "flash talks.” These startups included:

  • Aikido Technologies: Develops innovative technologies for the floating wind industry to bring low-cost, clean electricity to coastal cities around the world.

  • Beex: Builds hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles HAUVs and pairs them with software tools to help asset owners halve the costs and risks of inspecting underwater infrastructure.

  • Clearwater AR: Combines real-time video from a 360-degree camera with cartography, underwater terrain maps, AIS, and computer vision to make boating safer.

  • Copernic Catalysts: Uses computational tools to design catalysts that enable zero-carbon, cost-competitive chemicals and e-fuels. Currently focused on green ammonia.

  • Keystone Tower Systems: Aims to bring low-cost wind energy to communities around the world using a breakthrough process to develop wind turbine designs.

  • SeaDeep: Uses machine vision to empower any underwater vehicle to autonomously assess underwater environments and substructures in real-time.
